Company Outlines Success of Environmental Sustainability & Philanthropic Initiatives

BRENTWOOD, Tenn., April 09, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ: TSCO), the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States, has released its 2018 Stewardship Report, highlighting the Company’s ongoing commitment to become a more environmentally sustainable company.

“At Tractor Supply, we are proud of the growth both our company and our Stewardship Program have experienced over the past 10 years,” said Ben Parrish, Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Tractor Supply, who leads the Company’s Stewardship Program. “We believe being good stewards involves far more than minimizing our environmental impact. We know that our customers, team members, shareholders and other stakeholders care deeply about what companies do for their communities, for their people and for the planet, and as we look to the future, we will continue to prioritize finding ways to efficiently manage our resources, reduce our environmental impact and give back.”

Tractor Supply’s Stewardship Program was launched in 2008 as a reflection of its core Mission and Values and commitment to doing the right thing for its customers and the rural communities in which it serves. As a direct result of this program, Tractor Supply has actively invested in projects that not only reduce its impact on the environment but also give back to communities by donating to those in need and supporting nonprofit organizations that provide educational and leadership opportunities for younger generations living the rural lifestyle.

Tractor Supply continues to make progress on its stewardship and sustainability initiatives as seen through the following achievements made in 2018:

Energy & Recycling:

  • 103 million kilowatt hours saved through the Energy Management System
  • 1,765 stores operated with LED lighting
  • 92,786 gallons of oil collected from customers for recycling
  • 646,267 vehicle batteries recycled
  • 5 million wood pallets recycled
  • 25,586 tons of cardboard recycled

Giving Back:

  • Continued to provide national and local community support through longstanding partnerships with both 4-H and FFA organizations
  • Raised nearly $2 million for local 4-H Clubs through the bi-annual “Paper Clover” events with 90% of the money remaining in the state where it was collected
  • Raised over $830,000 for FFA chapters across the country through the “Grants for Growing” fundraiser, directly impacting more than 30,000 FFA high-school students who used the grants to purchase supplies for projects such as greenhouses, research farms and outdooring learning centers
  • Contributed over $8 million to community organizations, including 4-H and FFA, through direct giving, sponsorships, fundraisers and more

Community Engagement:

  • Facilitated the adoption of over 18,000 pets through community events
  • Hosted more than 3,100 local events in the communities Tractor Supply serves through sponsorship of state and county fairs; local events like rodeos, livestock shows and pet/animal events; and in-store events such as farmer’s markets and pet adoptions

In addition, Tractor Supply’s new distribution center in Frankfort, N.Y., which was substantially completed in late 2018, has been designed and built to meet high energy efficiency and environmental standards. The Company is seeking LEED® Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council for the facility, and if certified by the Council, the distribution center would be the third Tractor Supply Company facility to achieve LEED® Silver certification.
